A book cover re-design for a classic novel about a family’s journey to lay their wife and mother to rest. In the book, one of the children is living with autism and continuously mistakes his mother for a dead fish. I was drawn to this symbolism and wanted to carry that theme onto the cover. I created a print by painting the skeletal structure of a fish and transferring it to paper. I then replicated that style for the title by hand-writing the letters with glue, letting them partially dry, and transferring their forms. The imperfections were key in this design because they displayed the dark, gritty nature of the story.
